Four men from Chisinau and the southern region of Moldova are suspected of committing a burglary in Cyprus. They allegedly stole money and things from an apartment after beating the woman owner. Three of them were earlier tried for theft and swindle, IPN reports, quoting the General Police Inspectorate.

The crime was committed a year ago. The suspects, all aged 27, illegally entered the home of the victim aged 70 and beat her, causing her facial injuries. Afterward, they tied her up with adhesive and started to look for money, jewels and precious things. The suspects stole a safe with €40,000, golden jewelry and valuable watches inside. The stolen things were assessed at €730,000. The individuals ran away, leaving the victim tied.

The police in Cyprus managed to identify the burglars. At the beginning of this year, the Moldovan authorities were asked by the law enforcement bodies of Cyprus to provide assistance in investigating this case, being also issued with the arrest warrants. As a result of joint investigations, it was established that the suspects had been in Cyprus during two weeks in 2014. In the period, they followed the victim and planned the robbery. They returned to Moldova several days after they committed the offense.

After about a year of investigations, three of the suspects were arrested in Moldova, while the fourth – in Romania. At suspects’ homes, the police found 2 kg of narcotics, an electronic scale, bank cards and the stolen golden jewels and watches.

The four face 12 to 15 years in jail for burglary.
