The court issued arrest warrants for 30 days against four of the ten persons arrested by the Anticorruption Center (CCCEC) earlier this week for smuggling contraband. Among those arrested is a former employee of the Ministry of the Interior. The other six persons detained will be set free towards the end of the day, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the CCCEC’s press service, those detained are native of Chisinau, Calarasi, Palanca and Tudora and include a former officer of the Ministry of the Interior and a border guard. Most of them have a criminal record, including convictions for theft, falsification of documents, hooliganism and rape. On April 11 and 12, the Anticorruption Center detained ten persons who are suspected of smuggling consumer goods. They brought the goods into Moldova through the green border area of Palanca village. The officers of the Center searched the homes of the suspects and found a minibus loaded with contraband estimated at 1 million lei. The merchandise was smuggled from Ukraine and sold in markets in Chisinau. During the arrest of a suspect, an officer of the CCCEC was shot in the head and seriously injured. He is now in a serious, but stable condition.
