Four persons were arrested as a result of searches performed within the corruption and ethyl alcohol smuggling case. The fifth suspect is investigated outside prison, while another one is searched for by the police.
Contacted by IPN, prosecutor Eduard Harunjen, of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, said those arrested include a civilian, the head of the Public Oder Section of the Ceadir-Lunga Police Inspectorate, the head of the Valea Perjei Border Police picket, and an officer of the Cahul Regional Division of the Border Police. The prosecutors are to ask for arrest warrants for the arrested persons. One more person is to be announced wanted.
The police seized about 20 tonnes of ethyl alcohol kept in tanks and other types of containers. The specialists took samples and sent them to the lab for examination.
