Four elderly persons died from hypothermia over the last two days, Minister of the Interior Dorin Recean announced in the December 18 meeting of the Government’s commission for emergencies, Info-Prim Neo reports. The minister said that an 84-yer-old woman was found dead in her house in Corbu village of Donduseni district. A woman aged 61 from Valea-Trestieni, Nisporeni also froze to death in her house. Almost 600 vehicles have been pulled out of snowdrifts during the last two days. Assistance was provided to more than 800 passengers. Another 200 persons who didn’t want to leave their cars that got stick in the snow were provided with food and hot water. Minister of Health Andrei Usatyi said that four women gave birth at home in the period as the ambulances couldn’t get to them. A number of medical institutions, especially in the north of the country, encountered difficulties, but all of them were supplied with the necessary drugs and consumables. Three were reported 30 cases of hypothermia. Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure Anatol Salaru said that six road sections were still blocked on the afternoon of December 18, but he assured that they will be fully unblocked by the end of the day and all the national roads will be drivable. Following the heavy snow that started to fall in Moldova on December 15, the layer of snow rose to up to three meters in some of the northern districts.
