Free consultations for cancer

An anti-cancer campaign takes place in Moldova from June 8 – July 2. Physicians will go to Moldovan villages and offer free consultations, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to a press release of the Health Ministry, the doctors will go to Basarabeasca, Comrat, Ciadar-Lunga, Vulcanesti, Briceni, Soldanesti, Floresti, Sangerei, Drochia, Ialoveni, Criuleni, Dubasari, in the municipalities of Chisinau and Balti. Free consultations will be offered at the Oncological Institute and in dictrict hospitals. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the number of deaths from cancer is expected to double by till 2020 in the developing countries. Annually, 10 millions of new cancer cases are diagnosed, of which 2 million in Europe. This disease causes a quarter of the deaths in Europe. In Moldova, cancer kills at least 5 thousand people annually. According to official statistics, in 2007, 7,484 people were diagnosed with primary cancer, compared to 7,361 in 2006 and 6,952 in 2005. More people get malign tumors, in 2007 208.8 cases were registered at 100,000 population, in 2006 – 204.8 cases and in 2005 – 192.9.
