On the occasion of the Days of Francophonie in Moldova, the French Alliance inaugurated four new classrooms at the Culture and Arts Center Ginta Latina in Chisinau, Info-Prim Neo reports. French Ambassador in Moldova Pierre Andrieu said the classrooms were opened in a move to stimulate those who want to study French. “We are glad that the number of such persons rises every year. This fact gave an impetus to opening new classrooms,” the diplomat said. Attending the inauguration, Minister of Culture Boris Focsa said the new classrooms of the French Alliance in Moldova offer the possibility of learning the French art, culture and civilization. Anatol Stefanet, the leader of the band Trigon, said the French Alliance's steps aimed at spreading the French language in the region are beneficial to Moldova. The French Alliance was founded in 1883. It has branches in 33 countries. According to the French Embassy in Chisinau, about 400,000 persons studied French in Moldova in 2008. In 2009, this figure rose by about 100,000.
