A stall of fruits and vegetables grown in Moldova has been displayed today outside the Russian Embassy in Chisinau in protest at the import ban imposed by Russia, IPN reports.

The manifestation was staged by an organization called “Misc Lumea”/Moving the World/. Marcela Friptu, a co-founder, says the manifestation aims to convey the message to the Russian authorities that the youth in Moldova are against the embargo and that they guarantee the Moldovan fruits and vegetables are organic and absolutely safe to eat.

“We don't even need to use chemicals or pesticides because the soil and climate are so favorable here for productive agriculture. We support the local producers and we urge the government not to remain tongue-tied when our producers face difficulties”, says Marcela Friptu.

In gratitude for the support to the Moldovan fruit and vegetable growers showed in this situation, the organization is planning to send fruit baskets to the embassies of the United States and Romania.

Ianus Cusnir, another Misc Lumea co-founder, said the manifestation aims to change the attitude of the Moldovan politicians who chose to remain silent to the latest developments.

“It's so sad that this is affecting ordinary people, both the Moldovans, who grow these extremely good and organic goods, and the Russian consumers, who used to enjoy them. It's so sad that the policy pursued by the Russian Federation as well as by some Moldovan politicians, who perhaps played a role in imposing the ban against Moldova, affects both the Moldovan and Russian consumers”, said Ianus Cusnir.

In his opinion, the solution is to seek dialogue and compromise. Ianus Cusnir thinks that the problem is not so much about the pro-European orientation of the country, but rather about the vanity of someone who pursues political dividends.
