European officials are debating whether to resume purchases of Russian gas through pipelines to the EU as part of a potential agreement to end the war against Ukraine, IPN reports, citing Financial Times.

Sources of the publication state that this move could lower energy prices in Europe, push Moscow towards negotiations, and create conditions for a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.

The debate comes after Ukraine halted the transit of Russian gas to the EU at the beginning of 2025. The decision was criticized by Slovakia and Hungary, which still rely on imports from Russia. Currently, Russian gas reaches Europe only through the TurkStream pipeline and in the form of LNG.
