Gagauzia celebrates Wine Festival on Sunday

This weekend Comrat hosts the 2008 Wine Festival “Gagauz şarabin yortusu”, Info-Prim Neo learned from the Gagauz Governor's office. The official opening of the festival is scheduled for Sunday morning, and will take place in Comrat's main square. After a wine blessing ceremony, the festival's participants will be presented. Wine stands will be adjoined by so-called national yards of Gagauzia, where visitors will have the opportunity not only to taste fine wines but also to savor traditional dishes of the ethnic groups inhabiting the Gagauz autonomy. In the afternoon, the winners of the Best Homemade Wine Contest will be named. An artistic component will follow, featuring singers and bands from Turkey, Romania, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, the Transnistrian region, and the Gagauz autonomy. It is expected that the event will be attended, among others, by Moldovan PM Zinaida Greceanyi. This wine festival in Comrat culminates the series of events dedicated to the celebration of the National Wine Day on October 12, previously held in many parts of Moldova, including the municipalities of Chisinau and Balti.
