Gagauzians from Moldova and abroad will continue the actions aimed at straightening the humanistic ideas of spiritual and social revival of Gagauz people. This is said in a resolution adopted at the second World Congress of Gagauzians that was held in Comrat on August 18 and 19, Info-Prim Neo reports. More than 500 delegates from 15 countries, including Turkey, Russia, Greece, Bulgaria, the U.S., Canada and Brazil, participated in the forum. Gagauzians from Romania did not attend. The organizers told the local television that the Embassy of Moldova in Bucharest said the Romanian Gagauzians were to submit more official documents to the foreign ministry for being issued with visas, but they did not manage to. “Many of our opponents dreamed that after the Autonomous Unit of Gagauzia is founded, there will appear the so-called Gagauz problem. On the contrary, the relations between Chisinau and Comrat lack artificiality and falsity and do not have a conjunctural character,” Moldova’s outgoing president Vladimir Voronin said at the opening of the congress. The Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia located in Moldova’s south includes three towns (Comrat, Ciadar-Lunga and Vulcanesti) and 27 villages that entered the Unit at the residents’ wish expressed by referendum. Over 155,000 people live in Gagauz-Yeri. The first World Congress of Gagauzians took place in Comrat in 2006.
