The joint stock company Energocom in July-September bought about 3.5 million MWh of natural gas from the European market. Of these, the largest part, 3 million MWh, was sold to Moldovagaz for current consumption or for the winter season, IPN reports.

The weighted average price of the purchased gas was €35.25/MWh (or $404.92 per 1 000 cubic meters). Energocom said that in addition to its own resources, money from the grant offered to the Republic of Moldova by the Government of Norway and from the loan provided by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) were used. For gas purchases, 42 rounds of tender contests were held, in compliance with the rules of the EBRD loan, with up to nine companies from Europe participating in each round. 12 rounds ended with the conclusion of delivery contracts.

The total purchases in T 3 include 535,000 MWh of gas bought from the Romanian Commodities Exchange (BRM), which was stored in Romania, as security or commercial supplies, within the minimum limit provided by the legislation of 15% of annual consumption, these being quantities of gas specifically planned for exceptional cases.

In total, between January and September, SA Energocom bought about 4.4 million MWh, three quarters of which were purchased from companies registered in Romania and on the Romanian Commodities Exchange. Contracts were signed with eight commercial entities of Romania, Greece, Austria, and Switzerland.

As for the sales to Moldovagaz, these transactions were arranged on the platform managed by BRM Est, the local subsidiary of the Romanian Commodities Exchange, being also the operator of the gas trading platform in Chisinau. Other smaller quantities were sold to local companies given that, from January 1, 2025, all large consumers will be obliged to purchase gas on the free market and during this period more and more economic agents have migrated to the BRM Est platform.
