The Gender Equality Platform issued a public statement following the adoption by Parliament of the bill to reform the Government in the first reading. The Platform says it does not support the draft law because this does not stipulate the minimum representation quota of 40% for both of the sexes when compiling the list of candidates for member of the Government, IPN reports.

The Platform underlines that the adoption by Parliament of the bill in the current form will be regarded as a serious violation of the own commitments to ensure gender equality and the equitable representation of men and women in executive posts. Therefore, it insists that the bill should stipulate the minimum representation quota of 40% for male and female candidates for member of the Government for the second reading.

The press statement says the Gender Equality Platform is profoundly disappointed at the fact that the authors omitted all the changes introduced in the legislation. These refer mainly to the introduction of the gender equality principle in the work of the Government, ensuring of the principle of equality of chances between women and men in regulations and policy documents and ensuring of a minimum gender representation quota of 40% for the nominal list of Government members.
