The Georgian government has promised to finance the construction of 10 houses for the families displaced by recent floods in the Moldovan village of Nemteni and of a kindergarten in another flood-affected village, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a press release from the Moldovan presidential administration. Moldova's acting President Mihai Ghimpu held a meeting today with Suhan Sibashvili, a representative of Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, to discuss the details of the assistance project. Georgia has earlier sent 10 boats and 10 pumps for flood release efforts and has promised to host 125 children from the affected villages in a summer camp on the Georgian seaside. Georgia is the second nation, after Romania, to promise support in the aftermath of the recent floods on the Prut River. Mihai Ghimpu said the construction of homes would start after the identification of one of the three proposed models. Also, the Ministry of Construction and Regional Development is to hold a tender contest to select a contractor. “The people of Moldova, and especially the affected people who will benefit from this assistance, will always be profoundly grateful to our Georgian friends for the aid offered in these difficult moments for our country”, said Mihai Ghimpu. Earlier, Mihai Ghimpu and Mikheil Saakashvili had a phone conversation, on the initiative of the Georgian president, addressing the July floods.
