The Government of Germany is offering €15 million in grant funding to improve water infrastructure in the central region. The money is provided to the project “Improvement of Water Infrastructure in Central Moldova” through KfW Development Bank. The additional grant agreements were signed at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, IPN reports.
The Chisinau-Straseni-Calarasi water main is to be built as part of this project. Investments will also be made in the water network in Straseni and Calarasi and to extend the water supply infrastructure for the localities in the two districts.
“Water for all is one of our priorities at the Ministry. The agreements signed today will help us achieve this goal and complete the implementation of the project that will bring water to the homes of about 75,000 people in Straseni and Calarasi districts,” Minister Andrei Spînu said in the signing ceremony.
The value of the assistance provided by the German partners for the implementation of the project amounts to €40 million. The total contribution of the Government of the Republic of Moldova is €5 million. So far, all the financial and project implementation agreements for phase I, II and III have been signed, with €25 million in grant funding from Germany.
The additional investments of €15 million are intended for the launch of phase III, of which €13.5 million will be used for infrastructure, while €1.5 million for support measures.
The project is implemented by the Center Regional Development Agency and is projected to be completed in 2028.
