The decision of the Centru District Court to postpone the recount of votes cast for the Chisinau Municipal Council was “obviously bought” by the opposition, since the decision of the Court of Appeals which had ordered the recount was irreversible, Liberal leader Mihai Ghimpu stated before the Parliament's sitting on Thursday, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“The Communists seek to reach the Supreme Court of Justice, where they have Muruianu (IPN – Ion Muruianu, the President of the Supreme Court) who will rule in PCRM's favor”, said Ghimpu.
Valeriu Strelet, the leader of the Liberal-Democratic parliamentary faction, said the Alliance for European Integration could ask the Superior Magistracy Council to express its legal opinion on whether or not the appealing procedure was respected by the PCRM concerning the recount.
Democrat honorary president Dumitru Diacov said he took a dim view of what was happening. “I disapprove of unreasonable objections, of decisions of one court to do something and of decisions of another court to reverse something. A situation is created when you don't know what's happening, who's right and and who's wrong. Judges should be very careful and ponder everything with great diligence”.
The votes for the city council were set to be recounted today, June 23, as ordered by the Chisinau Court of Appeals in an irreversible judgment. However, on Wednesday, the Centru District Court postponed the recount for an indefinite period of time following a request submitted by a Communist representative.
