MP Mihai Godea proposed reducing the number of signatures of lawmakers needed in support of the applicants for the post of head of state from 15 to five, Info-Prim Neo reports. “I think that if five MPs can form a parliamentary group, the same number of lawmakers can field a candidate for the presidency,” Mihai Godea said in a press briefing on Thursday. According to him, the proposed bill guarantees the secrecy of the vote of the lawmakers. The special commission for the election of the head of state will invalidate the ballots if the MPs’ choice is made public. If the bill is adopted, it will be impossible to postpone the presidential elections for more than ten days of the date set initially. If Parliament is dissolved because it is unable to elect the head of state and early legislative elections are held, the President is to be elected within a year of the last dissolution of the legislature. Mihai Godea said the bill wad discussed with civil society and with the leader of the Liberal-Democratic parliamentary group Valeriu Strelet, the head of the Democratic group Dumitru Diacov, and the leader of the group of Socialists Igor Dodon. Discussions will be also held with the head of the Liberal group Ion Hadirca.
