Government and Chisinau City Hall share responsibility for organizing national holidays

The cultural activities dedicated to the Independence Day are organized by the Ministry of Culture and the State Chancellery, while those dedicated to the Romanian Language Day – by the Chisinau City Hall, the head of the municipal Culture Division Lucia Culev announced Monday, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. According to Lucia Culev, the City Hall will also stage several events dedicated to the Independence Day, including book and painting exhibitions at the branches of the municipal library “Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu” and the roundtable meeting “Romanian in Moldova in the European Integration Context” at the Romanian Language House “Nichita Stanescu” on August 25. On August 27 in the morning, officials of the City Hall will lay flowers at the monument to Ruler Stephan the Great. The activities dedicated to the Romanian Language Day will traditionally start with laying of flowers at the monument to Stephan the Great and at the busts of the Romanian Classical Writers in Chisinau's main public garden. A performance of poetry and music will follow shortly. An event to commemorate those who fought for Moldova's independence and the return to the Romanian language and Latin script, including Ion Vatamanu, Nicolae Costin, Nicolae Sulac, Ion Dumeniuc, Ion and Doinea Aldea-Teodorovici, Lidia Istrati, Petre Teodorovici and many others, will take place at the Central Cemetery in Chisinau starting at 11.00. An International Book Fair will take place at the National Library later. A contest-exhibition of plastic arts staged by the Union of Plastic Artists of Moldova in cooperation with the Bacau Inspectorate for Culture, Romania, will be opened at the exhibitions center “Constantin Brancusi” afterward. Exhibitions of paintings, graphic works, handicrafts and books will be mounted in the Public Garden “Stefan cel Mare” throughout the day. A spectacular concert will be given in the Great National Assembly Square in the evening. It will culminate with a performance by the Romanian band “Morandi.”
