Government approves regulations on organization of Antiterrorism Operational Command

Moldova will have an Antiterrorism Operational Command that will coordinate and conduct antiterrorism operations. The Cabinet on August 12 approved regulations that specify the organization, functioning and duties of the Command, IPN reports.

The Antiterrorism Operational Command’s members who will manage the information classed as state secret will have access to the state secret and will bear responsibility for not obeying the provisions on the protection of the  state secret in accordance with the law.

The secretariat work will be performed by representatives of the Security and Intelligence Service. The SIS director will propose the numerical and functional composition of the Command for Parliament to take a decision as to the creation of this depending on the gravity of the crisis situation.

The Command will be led by the Service’s vice director or by the head of the SIS’s Antiterrorism Center in the absence of this.

The bill authors said the goal of the document is to improve the processes of managing terrorism crisis situations and to implement the provisions of the law on the prevention and combating of terrorism of 2017.
