Government awards best volunteers of Moldova

The Government and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research offered diplomas and money awards to volunteers and organizations that contributed to the development of volunteering in Moldova in the course of 2018. The Gala “Respect for Volunteers” was held on December 20 on the occasion of the International Human Solidarity Day, IPN reports.

Attending the event, Prime Minister Pavel Filip said the concept of “giving to society” has expanded in Moldova. Those who can do something do it. Those who can do more become involved in volunteering. In 2019, 10 million lei will be allocated to organizations that will appraise the policies pursued by the Government. Volunteering is for powerful people. The Premier thanked the over 60,000 volunteers who mobilized all over the country to help 270,000 people.
 
Minister of Education, Culture and Research Monica Babuc noted that volunteering is a method of expressing the attitude, of educating solidarity inside society and it is not always easy to do so.

Ana-Maria Odobescu from Cuizăuca village of Rezina district was named the most active volunteer in 2018. The campaign “Caring Grandparents” carried out by the association with the similar name was chosen the best volunteering promotion event. Svetlana Bodiştean from Varnița, Anenii Noi, was named the best volunteer coordinator.

The award ceremony was held to mark the end of the National Volunteering Week that is implemented by the public association “Youth for the Right to Life” in concert with the Volunteering Coalition. The Gala “Respect for Volunteers” is supported by the Government through the program of grants of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research.
