The cars younger than 10 will continue to be imported into Moldova. The executive rejected a legislative initiative by which the age limit for imported cars is reduced from 10 to 7, IPN reports.

Minister of Finance Anatol Arapu said the provisions on the import of cars up to the age of 10 came into force on January 1, 2013, while the excise duties levied on the import of these cars rose by 80 million lei in seven months.

As regards the reasons invoked by the authors of the bill, who said that the old cars pollute the environment, the minister stated that some of the newer car can do the same as everything depends on the used fuel and on the drivers’ attitude.

In a news conference at IPN held before the Government’s meeting, the National Participation Council warned that this bill wasn’t published on the executive’s website for public debates and the decisional transparency norms were thus violated.
