The Government has joined the campaign “16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence”. According to the Government’s spokesman Daniel Vodă, emphasis this year is placed on the importance of financing different strategies for combating and preventing this phenomenon, IPN reports.
In Moldova, three in four women or 73% of the women faced at least one form of abuse on the part of the partner. 71% were victims of psychological abuse. One third of the women were subject to physical violence, while 20% experienced sexual violence.
Violence negatively affects the physical and mental health and the wellbeing of women at all stages of life, hampering their professional development and economic empowerment. Violence can be prevented by actions taken by the whole community.
Daniel Vodă noted that the Government supports the UN Women’s initiative to mount an exhibition of digital art centering on the stories of four women, from Moldova and Ukraine, who were affected by different types of violence, in order to raise awareness of the seriousness of this phenomenon and of the necessity of acting to root it out.
The event to launch the exhibition and the official launch of the campaign will take place at the Stage Door on November 24, starting at 10:30 a.m.
