The Communist Party accuses the government of avoiding implementing the Electronic Register of Voters. MP Sergiu Sarbu told a news conference on Friday that the authorities plan to rig the June 5 local elections through the agency of inaccurate electoral rolls, by misusing the additional lists and by multiple voting, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The Electronic Register of Voters could have been used in last year’s elections, not speaking about this year’s elections. But there is no political will. The authorities did everything possible for the Central Electoral Commission not to be ready to start implementing the Register so as to block this process. They do not want the electoral rolls to be faultless,” said the lawmaker. According to Sergiu Sarbu, the authorities want the lists of voters to contain mistakes so that they are able to fix the election results. They realize that they can win by 5% to 10% more through the additional lists, he stated. “If the central electoral authority is unable to ensure free and democratic elections, we will no more need such a body and can invite foreign experts to organize the elections, as in some of the African countries,” said Sergiu Sarbu. Early in April, the legislative body decided to postpone the implementation of the Electronic Register of Voters until 2015. At the Central Electoral Commission, the Register was installed in the form of servers and databases. But for the Register to function, all the 2,000 national electoral offices must be connected to its information system and have the necessary infrastructure, said earlier CEC president Iurie Ciocan.
