Government suggests annulling nominal compensations for 12 social groups

The executive proposes Parliament to annul the nominal compensations, except those paid to war veterans and participants in the Chernobyl cleanup, Info-Prim Neo reports. Under the Government Decision, the nominal compensations for war veterans and participants in the Chernobyl cleanup will not be increased. A moratorium is imposed on adding new recipients to the list of beneficiaries. According to the National Social Insurance House, there were 241,000 beneficiaries of nominal compensations in Moldova in 2010, while the sum allocated from the budget exceeded 350 million lei. If the legislature adopts the amendments proposed to the Law on the Special Social Protection of Certain Groups of People, of April 14, 2000, the budget compensation payment expenses will be halved. The 12 social groups for which the nominal compensations will be annulled can apply for social assistance based on income assessment. Minister of Labor, Social Protection and Family Valentina Buliga said these changes are aimed at optimizing the social assistance system and ensuring social equity when distributing state funds to families in difficulty.
