The executive will consider the demands concerning the amendment of the Law on Religions put forward by the Alliance of Orthodox Associations, Prime Minister Vlad Filat announced in a press briefing on Friday. The Premier said the Government will discuss the issue with the Moldovan Metropolitan Church and try to identify solutions, Info-Prim Neo reports.
”We will examine the given demands. Moldova is a free country that guarantees the people’s rights to expression and opinion. They expressed their viewpoint. We will provide details later,” said the Prime Minister.
On May 18, hundreds of Orthodox Christians, priests and faithful persons protested in the Great National Assembly Square against the registration of Islamism. They said the authorities were to consult civil society and the Church before registering this religion.
The Law on Religions was adopted in 2007.
