A great USAID program in the digital sector to the value of US$32 million will be launched in Chisinau in the evening of November 17. The program entitled “Technologies of the Future” will promote innovations and will help the Republic of Moldova to advance on the path of digital economy. The information was made public in a working meeting of President Maia Sandu and USAID Administrator Samantha Power, who is in Chisinau on her first visit abroad in her new capacity. In the discussions, Maia Sandu said the Republic of Moldova banks on USAID’s assistance in doing a real justice sector reform and in fighting corruption.
The dialogue centered on the projects implemented by USAID in the Republic of Moldova in different areas. “We spoke about the major investments made by the U.S. in the modernization of the light industry of the Republic of Moldova, to support the small businesses and competitive agriculture or to develop the IT sector and innovations,” stated President Sandu.
She welcomed the United States’ efforts to support democracy, civil society and the independent press and thanked for the assistance offered in the fight against the pandemic. “We count on the support of USAID, including for a real justice sector reform and in the fight against corruption as key elements for developing the country’s economy and for ensuring the people’s wellbeing,” said the official.
For her part, Samantha Power assured that the U.S. will further support the Republic of Moldova and the country’s reform agenda.
