Grigore Petrenco, who heads the Party “Our Home – Moldova”, in a news conference at IPN, announced that he will dispute in court the December 29, 2016 decision by the Superior Council of Prosecutors to award prosecutors, which he calls ‘pocket prosecutors’. Grigore Petrenco said the decision is illegal and was adopted in a hurry.

“They hurried up with the proposal to name Harunjen and also hurried to compile the list of prosecutors who are to be awarded,” stated Grigore Petrenco. According to the ex-MP, the list of the almost 50 prosecutors includes controversial names. The administration of the Prosecutor’s Office decided to award the most docile prosecutors, who are used as intimidation and persecution tools.

The politician also said that the prosecutors who are examining political cases, including those who prosecute representatives of the opposing, are on this list. This way the regime wants to promote particular persons at the Prosecutor’s Office because these internal awards will be taken into consideration on promotion.

Grigore Petrenco said that among the awarded prosecutors are Igor Popa, who started the case of Petrenco Group, and Nicu Sendrea, who heads the group of prosecutors in this case. “They are awarded and favored and this is a signal for the others that this system can promote only those who fulfill the orders of the regime,” he stated.

The former MP also mentioned Vitalie Sibov, who deals with the cases started against activists Alexandru Petkov and Felix Grincu.  “Prosecutor Adriana Betisor does not have to say many things. She is an instrument of this regime and fulfills political orders. For everyone it is clear that she cannot incriminate Ilan Shor for anything. Instead, she finds other persons who would be accused of the theft of the US$1 billion. Everyone knows that Shor was the tool through which the US$1 billion was stolen,” said the chairman of the Party “Our Home – Moldova”.

As to the appointment of Eduard Harunjen as prosecutor general, Grigore Petrenco said the presidential decree was signed in a hurry, while the contest held to choose the candidate was a farce. Eduard Harunjen shouldn’t have taken part in the contest as he held the post of prosecutor general on an interim basis and was an ex officio member of the Superior Council of Prosecutors.
