A group of mothers in the morning of June 22 submitted a petition to the Chisinau Municipal Council and Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca whereby they ask to examine the problem of damaged sidewalks in the capital city. The petition was signed by 2,000 people, IPN reports.

The signatories ask for information about the costs incurred in 2015 for rehabilitant the sidewalks, by specifying the repaired portions, and about the money earmarked in this year’s municipal budget to be spent on the repair of sidewalks.

“We request the Chisinau councilors to include the problem of damaged and blocked sidewalks, high curbs and abrupt ramps in the agenda of the next meeting of the Council and to initiate discussions with members of the initiative group on the problem so as to identify solutions to it,” says the petition.

“We ask to be heard. When street repair works are carried out like those on Stefan cel Mare Blvd, Vasile Alexandri St and Negruzzi Blvd, such problems as the difficult street crossing and inappropriate ramps and curbs should also be taken into account,” said the leader of the initiative group Lidia Taran.

The authorities are to respond to the petition within 30 days.
