Group of Socialists will support Timofti, Viorel Cibotaru

The parliamentary group of Socialists will vote in favor of presidential candidate Nicolae Timofti, considers political analyst Viorel Cibotaru. He has told Info-Prim Neo that there are favorable conditions in this respect. “The statements made by Igor Dodon and the opinions about Nicolae Timofti show that the group of Socialists will support this candidate,” said Viorel Cibotaru. He also said that the circumstances are favorable as the conditions enumerated by Igor Dodon were met. According to the analyst, the statehood test that the Socialist leader wants to give to the candidate is aimed at finding out Nicolae Timofti’s attitude towards the Constitution, how he understands the independence, sovereignty and quality of guarantor of the supreme law. “It is normal to find out the opinion of a candidate on such things, no matter whether this candidate has political or professional background,” stated Viorel Cibotaru. As to unaffiliated MP Mihai Godea, Viorel Cibotaru said that the lawmaker made it clear that he will take a decision closer to the election day. According to the analyst, Godea wants to attract public attention, as Igor Dodon and representatives of other factions aimed to. Mihai Godea played a particular role in the last elections, when he refused to show his ballot. “The scenario was carefully planned. I do not rule out that Mister Godea wants to play a special role this time as well so as to be noticed by the voters,” said the analyst. The Alliance for European Integration on March 12 fielded the president of the Supreme Court of Justice Nicolae Timofti for the post of head of state. The elections will take place on March 16. The President of Moldova is elected by 61 votes of the 101 lawmakers.
