Gynecological office inaugurated at Border Police Department

The women employees of the Border Police, female asylum seekers, refugees and beneficiaries of humanitarian protection can have gynecological consultations to have a diagnosis at a gynecological office that was opened at the Border Police Department. The office was outfitted within the project “Asylum Systems Quality Initiative in Eastern Europe and South Caucasus, Phase II”, IPN reports.

In the Border Police, the women represent 25% of the personnel. “We want to strengthen the capacities of the border police by improving the quality of the provided medical assistance and by modernizing the medical equipment,” Border Police chief Fredolin Lecari stated in the opening of the office on May 25.

The project was initiated by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Head of the UNHCR National Office Traian Turcanu said there are almost 170 women refugees in Moldova who need specialized medical assistance. “Today’s event shows that the cooperation between UNHCR and the Border Police is in the ascendant. We are ready to offer more,” stated Traian Turcanu.

Almost €20,000 was spent on the equipment of the medial gynecological office.
