Two inspectors of the Hancesti Traffic Police were sentenced for offenses committed a year ago. One of them got five years and six months in jail, while the second was given one year’s probation, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Prosecutor General’s Office. According to the prosecutors, last October one of the police officers asked for €700 and 4,000 lei from an inebriated driver who caused a traffic accident for not holding him accountable. In order to hide his acts, the policeman draw up a report, fining the driver 1 000 lei and writing false data about the accident. This January, the same police officer and a colleague of his stopped a car and, threatening the driver and the passenger, started to punch them. The first policeman was convicted of passive corruption, abuse of power and use of false data in public documents. He got five years and six months, was fined 20 000 lei and banned from holding a responsible position for a five-year period. His colleague, who was put on probation, was deprived of the right of holding responsible positions for a period of three years. The convictions can be appealed to a higher court.
