The head of the Armenian diaspora in Moldova Venera Gasparean complains that her whole family is held hostage to political games. She said that her son David Davitean was arrested in a criminal case started by order and has been in remand detention for two months. In a news conference at IPN, Venera Gasparean said her daughter Tativic Davitean was detained for several days without being told why.
Venera Gasparean stated that to see her son released, she sought help from the secretary general of the Democratic Party Constantin Botnari, who was a close family friend. In exchange, Constantin Botnari asked her to obtain a statement from her former son-in-law Vitalie Proca, who is held in Romania, whereby to confirm that he does not know Vladimir Plahotniuc.
The woman said she obtained such a statement from her former son-in-law after she told him that his ex-wife was arrested and their children were sick. But Constantin Botnari hasn’t asked for this statement anymore.
Venera Gasparean noted that even if her daughter was married to Vitalie Proca, she does not maintain a connection with him now and their family should not suffer as a result of this relationship. She requested that the law enforcement agencies should immediately release her son.
“Our family has been in a difficult situation for about two months. We are treated as culprits, but we bear no blame. We are hostage to political games. We were always close to those people who are now against us and terrorize and blackmail us,” stated the chief of the Moldovan diaspora in Moldova.
The family’s lawyer Alexandru Botnariuc said it is not known exactly what David Davitean was arrested for. The indictment says he is accused of complicity in a murder attempt, but he wasn’t involved in this.
