The head of the Drochia branch of the state-run company Auto Terminals and Stations was arrested by anticorruption officers and prosecutors on passive corruption charges. The man allegedly asked and received 400 to 600 lei daily for not creating impediments to the managers of the about 30 routes that cross the auto terminal in Drochia town, IPN has learned from the National Anticorruption Center.
The scheme was implemented through an inspector who kept a record of the paid and unpaid sums. The amounts varied depending on the weekdays and the operated additional routes. In 11 cases, the money was transmitted under the control of investigating officers.
The suspect was arrested for 72 hours and is held in the remand unit of the Chisinau Police Division. He faces up to seven years in jail.
