Head of state should be elected as soon as possible, Mevlut Çavuşoğlu

“The President should be elected as soon as possible so as to establish stability and continue the initiated reforms,” said the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Mevlut Çavuşoğlu, who in a news conference spoke about the subjects discussed with Moldovan politicians earlier today, Info-Prim Neo reports. The European official said the ruling alliance and the Opposition should immediately start intensive talks to reach a decision as regards the election of the head of state. Both of the sides must be ready to make compromises in the interests of the country. The political forces should find a compromise solution. Asked by the journalists if a new constitutional referendum may help break the impasse, Mevlut Çavuşoğlu said it would be a solution, but a compromise reached in Parliament is preferable. He also said that in the meeting with representatives of the Communist parliamentary group, he called on the Opposition not to boycott the sittings of the legislature and to take an active part in the legislative process. He stressed yet that the PACE cannot impose somebody to vote in the head of state. Mevlut Çavuşoğlu has paid a working visit to Chisinau at the invitation of Acting President and Head of Parliament Marian Lupu. He met with Acting President Marian Lupu, Prime Minister Vlad Filat and the leaders of the parliamentary groups.
