The hearings in the case of former Prime Minister Vlad Filat will continue to be held behind closed doors. Such a decision was taken by judges of the Chisinau Appeals Courts who on September 27 examined the lawyers’ request to make the hearings public and the prosecutors’ request to keep these closed, IPN reports.
The lawyer for the ex-Premier Igor Popa said there are no plausible reasons to hold the hearings behind closed doors, while the motives invoked by the prosecution are absurd. “One of these is that one more case related to first one is being examined. But we know very well that the related cases are tried together. Besides, they invoked some absurd things about another criminal case that will be tried behind closed doors, but this has no connection with the given case and an analogy cannot be drawn here,” stated the layer.
According to Igor Popa, in the next hearing they will present a set of applications by which they will ask to accept the witnesses for the defense.
The next hearing was set for October 11.
