During 12 months, the hemodialysis services will be improved, Minister of Health Andrei Usatyi said in the program “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel. According to him, in July the Ministry will announce a public-private partnership in radiotherapy, IPN reports.

“There was made a feasibility study that revealed that only such a partnership can be a solution. Within an optimal period of 12 months, we will have another type of hemodialysis services. We will announce a tender contest to identify the private partner. During two weeks, we will assess participants’ offers. Afterward, within six months, we will put them into practice,” said the minister.

Andrei Usatyi added that the public-private partnership carries no risk. More than 3,500 patients who need dialysis will be able to have the necessary treatment. “There are thousands of square meters of unused space. The private partners will bring modernization, not only technological, but also managerial,” stated the minister.

In the same program, the head of the Urology, Dialysis and Renal Transplant Clinic Adrian Tanase said that only 20 of the 150 people with renal insufficiency who receive treatment at the National Clinical Hospital can be put on the list for transplant. The rest do renal dialysis two times a week. “I’m glad that attention started to be devoted to this problem. A partnership form is necessary nowadays in this sector,” he said.

Ghenadie Turcanu, program coordinator at the Center for Health Policies and Analysis, disagreed, saying the public-private partnership is a failure because it involves the Government or the Ministry of Health not the district councils. “The hemodialysis services will depend on the private partners that will set the prices as they want,” he stated.

The Ministry of Health has already established a public-private partnership. A Radiology and Imagistic Diagnosis Center was opened at the National Clinical Hospital in March.
