The groups of authors of school textbooks will be paid at least 20% of the value of the contract signed with the publishing house or at least 50% of the purchase price equal to an average monthly salary in the economy for an author one-sheet This is provided in a draft decision that was approved by the Cabinet on Wednesday, IPN reports.
The Ministry of Education and Research noted that, for example, if the value of the purchase contract for a textbook title with 160 pages is 1 million lei, the group of authors will be paid 200,000 lei, i.e. 20% of the total value of the contract. In the case of a group of four authors, each author will benefit from 50,000 lei. If the contract value of a textbook title is 500,000 lei, the group of authors will be paid 10 average monthly salaries in the economy, which in 2024 is 137,000 lei.
According to Secretary of State Galina Rusu, the decision comes to encourage and motivate the active participation of groups of authors in the compilation of school textbooks.
The document also stipulates that the Ministry of Education will purchase and place on its official page the digital version of high-quality textbook projects, which contended in tender contests for textbook purchases and accumulated at least 90% of the score for the quality of the offer, but were not declared winners.
For 2024, the Ministry launched the acquisition of 67 titles of school textbooks. Bids were submitted for only 46 textbook titles. Of these, the textbook offers for five titles didn’t accumulate at least 80% of the quality score and were excluded from the competition. For the academic year 2024-2025, 41 textbook titles with a total circulation of over one million copies are ready for printing.
