Hoar frost causes power outages

The hoar frost last night left without electrical power 134 settlements in 14 districts served by Union Fenosa, 22 villages in four districts connected to the power supplier RED-Nord-Vest and 56 settlements in 8 districts connected to RED-Nord. A number of social institutions were also plunged into darkness. The information was made public at a Cabinet meeting centering on the unfavorable weather conditions, Info-Prim Neo reports. Mihai Harabagiu, the head of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, said they prepared 21 sets of hot air equipment and 40 generators that will be provided when need be. “All the teams work to remove the damage caused by the strong winds and hoar frost last night,” Harabagiu said. Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure Anatol Salaru said the national roads are not closed for traffic and there were reported no problems. As to the overturning of two trucks on Thursday, he said the vehicles had summer tires that were in a worn condition. Prime Minister Vlad Filat said the situation is very difficult and immediate steps must be taken to reconnect the settlements to the power supply.
