The Christmas tree in central Chisinau was inaugurated on December 1, as last year. Simultaneously with the lights on the tree, there were switched on the holiday lights on the main arteries of the city, from Dacia Blvd. in Botanica district to Alba-Iulia Blvd. in Buiucani district, Info-Prim Neo reports.
”I congratulate you on the National Day of the Romanians and on the first winter day. Today we inaugurate the Christmas tree and turn on the holiday lights. Not accidentally, today Chisinau has been twinned with Alba-Iulia in Romania. This municipality is already in the EU. We are knocking at Europe’s door and Alba-Iulia is a symbol for us,” Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca said in the inauguration ceremony.
He also said that the authorities are making effort to make the holidays as enjoyable as possible. “I ask you to appreciate our deeds as they are intended for you. We had problems the previous years. In 2007, the fir tree was moved beyond the Triumphal Arch, while the next year it was confiscated. However, we coped with all the difficulties,” said the mayor.
A concert involving national and Romanian singers was given in the Great National Assembly Square after the inauguration.
The fir was decorated with LED lighting systems and silver and red baubles. It is about 25 meters in height and is the highest fir tree set up in central Chisinau during the last 20 years.
