The Ministry of the Interior will set up a commission that will investigate the violent April events in order to identify the police officers to blame and hold them accountable, Minister Victor Catan announced at a news conference on October 6, Info-Prim Neo reports. “We are obliged to professionally investigate those events and establish how the police had to act to prevent the violence and isolate the persons who committed those acts,” the minister said. “On the other hand, we must probe the acts of the police after the April 7 events. I think the most tragic moment was the involvement of the police in illegal arrests, maltreatment of the protesters, when the remand centers turned into places of terror for those detained.” The minister reiterated that the police must act in accordance with the law and cannot use torture against the people.
