The dwellings of over 800 families that form part of risk groups will be equipped with smoke detectors. The first devices were installed in several houses in Fauresti village of Chisinau municipality within the national campaign “A protected home. A saved life” that was launched by the Ministry of the Interior in concert with the General Inspectorate for Emergencies on February 19, IPN reports.
“Within the campaign, we aim to install smoke detectors in homes of persons from such risk groups as invalids, persons confined to bed, war veterans and socially deprived families with many children,” Minister Alexandru Jizan stated in a news conference.
These installations, which issue sonorous signals in situations of fire, can save lives. In connection with the launch of the campaign, the minister encouraged all the families to purchase devices to secure their home.
A sum of 96,000 lei will be allocated from the budget of the Ministry of the Interior and by the local public authorities for outfitting the 842 houses with smoke detectors gratis. Representatives of the subdivisions of the General Inspectorate for Emergencies will regularly check the technical state of these devices.
Mihail Harabagiu, head of the General Inspectorate for Emergencies, called on the population to obey the rules of using heating systems and to immediately call 901 in situations of risk.
The over 200 fires that happened in Moldova so far this year claimed 38 lives, including of two children. Most of the fires occurred in villages.
