The central nervous system is often affected in the case of patients diagnosed with the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19. A large part of the patients are rather aggressive, periodically excited and depressive. The fear of death persists in the infected elderly persons, Veronica Tsugulschi, who heads the emergency admissions unit of the Chisinau Hospital “Saint Archangel Mikhail”, stated for IPN.
She explained that the disorders start from the functional ones, such as excitability, cognitive disorders, anxiety, depression, and continue with organic disorders, such as polyneuropathies and encephalitis. The complications stretch from lungs to practically all the blood vessels and micro-thrombosis appear as a result. There are affected the thalamus, hypothalamus and the limbic system and behavioral disorders appear.
Contacted by IPN, psychologist Lilia Gorceag said that regardless of the form of manifestation of the virus, this leaves a deep imprint on human health. Those who are diagnosed with the virus leave in fear and do not have hope in tomorrow. These patients have suicidal thoughts and suffer from depression and other consequences. This state can worsen and the person should then seek help from specialists. Any problem related to mental health needs to be described and analyzed.
Recently, a woman diagnosed with the virus was found strangled in a bathroom of “Saint Archangel Mikhail” Hospital. Suicide is the examined version. Doctors said the woman suffered from a central nervous system disease determined by the infection.
