The prosecutors complain, while the police deny responsibility for the fact that some of the motorists continue to drive even if they were deprived of this right, IPN reports.
In a communique, the Prosecutor General’s Office says there are ascertained hundreds of cases when persons who are convicted of committing road accidents and are banned from driving continue to be active participants in the traffic because they are not deprived of driver’s license.
“The person is temporarily deprived of the driver’s license by the traffic police working in the area where this person has the domicile, but this prescription is not respected by the National Patrolling Inspectorate,” says the communique.
However, the Inspectorate’s head Marin Maxian said the police are not empowered to implement court decisions. “We withdraw the permits only when we ascertain the offense. If we intervene in other situations too, we will exceed our authority. The legislation should be amended. The probation offices should be connected to the database of the National Patrolling Inspectorate so that the inspectors could check the licenses of the stopped drivers,” he stated.
