Iacob Gumenita under house arrest for one more month

Iacob Gumenita, the former police chief of the municipality of Chisinau, will remain under house arrest for one more month. The warrant for his arrest was extended by the Chisinau Court of Appeals on April 30, Info-Prim Neo reports. The former police chief is investigated for misuse of authority and is suspected of kicking peaceful protesters on the night of April 8, 2009. Colonel Iacob Gumenita was arrested on April 15 this year, but was soon released from the remand center of the Anticorruption Center and put under house arrest as he was sick. On April 26, he was set free from house arrest. The court obliged Gumenita to attend all the hearings and inform about a possible change of address. He and his lawyer Ion Vazdoaga refused to make statements for the press.
