The director of the Moldova Institute for Human Rights (IDOM) Vanu Jereghi was appointed adviser on human rights to Minister of Justice Alexandru Tanase. The decision was made following the establishment of a partnership between the Ministry of Justice and the civil society, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“A partnership can exist only when certain powers are transferred to the civil society so that it has the instruments needed to do more than write reports and applications,” Minister of Justice Alexandru Tanase told a news conference on Thursday.
As adviser to the Minister of Justice, Vanu Jereghi will have access to information at courts of law and the institutions subordinated to the Ministry of Justice and will be able to enter any penitentiary institution at any hour.
According to Alexandru Tanase, the Institute for Human Rights has institutional capacities and rich experience in implementing projects.
Van Jereghi said the Ministry of Justice's decision is unprecedented in Moldova's history and the Government is really open for cooperation with the civil society.
The Moldova Institute for Human Rights is an independent, non profit organization that defends the human rights. It was founded in 2007 by a group of jurists who promote human rights.
