“Igor Dodon’s statements about the reformation of the Communist Party (PCRM) underline that the party is not democratic inside. There is a group that dominates this party that is very secluded. If Igor Dodon manages to reform the PCRM, it will be a performance for him and for Moldova, but I think he does not have many changes,” political analyst Anatol Taranu said in a news conference at Info-Prim Neo.
“It is very important what steps Igor Dodon will take. The fact that he states his opinions in public makes him a very interesting character for experts. Igor Dodon has been a reference figure in the Moldovan politics during the last few months and I think he will preserve this quality if his statements about the PCRM’s reformation are based on a though analysis and he is really preoccupied with his own political image and his own political project. What Igor Dodon proposes is an important political project not only for him, but also for the political group that he represents,” said Anatol Taranu.
According to the analyst, it is not known who forms part of Igor Dodon’s group. “We may presume that it includes Zinaida Greceanyi, but the other members are not known. This shows that the PCRM is a very closed party. In general, the political parties in Moldova are closed, but the PCRM is much more closed and this is not good,” he stated.
Anatol Taranu considers that there are two possible ways for Igor Dodon – he may remain a member of the party and comply with the rules and atmosphere existing there or he may be expelled if he does not manage to reform the party. “For him, it would be better to be excluded so that he left as a victim. If he leaves the party himself, he may follow the path of Victor Stepaniuc, though there is also another path, that of Marian Lupu,” said the analyst.
Earlier, Igor Dodon said he wants the PCRM to be a really modern party where the power will not be concentrated in one hand. He said he was for political flexibility and for collective decisions inside the party.
