The Communist Party’s candidate for mayor of Chisinau Igor Dodon told a news conference on June 2 that a publication with the logo of the paper “Timpul” appeared in the suburbs of Chisinau. It contains information that denigrates him. Igor Dodon said he filed an application to the Central Election Commission, asking that it verify if the publication was financed by the Liberal Party, as it evidently favors the Liberal candidate Dorin Chirtoaca, Info-Prim Neo reports. “They make everything possible to discredit us, especially me, by so-called fake papers. New newspapers are being printed. This paper was distributed in all the suburbs. Neither the number of copies, nor the publishing house where it was printed is indicated,” said the Communist candidate. Igor Dodon said that his opponents during the election campaign resorted to challenges in order to discredit him. “A fake blog of Bogdan Tardea (political analyst) appeared yesterday. It contains messages that denigrate the PCRM’s candidate for mayor and urge the people not to vote for the Communist candidates for councilors. It is a provocation staged by my opponents,” said Igor Dodon. He also said that his personal blog is attacked. There appeared press reports that Dodon is ‘Russia’s man’ for the Chisinau City Hall and that he got Romanian nationality. The Communist candidate said these are cheap insinuations and he does not intend to apply for the nationality of another state. Igor Dodon stated that the social campaign “I Love Moldova” and the CD with the same name that he launched had repercussions. “The impresario company of Ion Paladi that made accusations against me through Vlad Constandoi is suspected of illegally occupying 82.5 square meters in the head office of the Culture Division. I wonder if there is a connection between Chirtoaca and Vlad Constandoi’s statements,” he said. Igor Dodon voiced hope that the contenders will not resort to challenges and vote rigging on the election day. The PCRM will delegate over 1,500 observers to monitor the elections in the municipality of Chisinau. The people on June 5 will elect their mayors and district and local councilors. Igor Dodon is under No. 5 in the ballot.
