The Chisinau councilors who represent the parties of the Alliance for European Integration (AEI) delay the inaugural meeting of the Municipal Council because they are not ready to cope with the assumed responsibilities, said MP Igor Dodon, municipal councilor on behalf of the Communist Party, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“The fact that the first meeting is delayed shows that they are not ready to cope with the responsibilities of municipal councilor. We wonder whether they will shirk their responsibilities during all the four years or only in the first meeting. Regretfully, those who spoke nicely and a lot about the interests of the residents of Chisinau during the election campaign did not come to the first meeting of the Council today. Probably those who were our opponents in the campaign and are now our colleagues whom we respect did not realize that the electoral period is over,” Igor Dodon said after the inaugural meeting was adjourned as the quorum was not present.
Igor Dodon does not rule out that the councilors of the AEI are looking for solutions to corrupt one or several of the Communist municipal councilors so as to prevent the PCRM from holding a majority of seats. “It is regrettable that those who say they plead for democratic norms try to make use of such instruments. As all the democratic elements were used – the June 5 elections, the vote recount – they try to employ other levers,” he said.
Asked to comment on Igor Dodon’s statements, Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca, the deputy chairman of the Liberal Party, said the AEI does not intend to corrupt the Communist councilors. “It is the members of the PCRM who have experience as regards corruption, illegal privatization, falsification of documents. They should answer for these illegalities and then speak about others,” he said.
The Communist Party holds 26 seats of councilor, the Liberal Party – 17, the Liberal-Democratic Party – seven, while the Democratic Party – one seat. The inaugural meeting of the Municipal Council was rescheduled for July 18 because only the Communist councilors appeared at it.
