The candidate of the Communist Party (PCRM) for mayor of Chisinau Igor Dodon had a meeting with representatives of the diplomatic corps on May 24. The discussions centered on possible challenges and the possibility of the June 5 local elections being rigged, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the PCRM, the meeting took place at the request of the embassies working in Chisinau. In a press briefing after the meeting held at the U.S. Embassy, Igor Dodon said they discussed the present situation in economy and the political situation in Moldova as well as the way that the election campaign is conducted in Chisinau and all over the country. “I thoroughly described the situation created during the campaign and presented materials pointing to the possibility of political challenges against election runners and of the results of the local elections being fixed. I’m glad that the discussions were constructive,” said Igor Dodon. The candidate also said that he was assured by the diplomatic corps that they will follow attentively the local elections in Moldova and will make everything possible to avoid the challenges. Igor Dodon stated that the meeting was not accidental as it formed part of the discussions held last week, including in Brussels. He said there will be other meetings in the near future, which will show that the politicians in Moldova can come to terms both with the West and the East and can have a constructive dialog in Moldova’s interests.
