“By intensifying and developing the economic ties between the member states of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization and with other international entities, we will definitely be able to achieve results in the field, for the benefit of our people,” President Igor Dodon said in the anniversary BSEC Summit that is taking place in Istanbul on May 22, IPN reports.

“We highly appreciate the efforts and results of our colleagues in Turkey, who worked out and implemented a serious and consistent agenda in the period during which the Republic of Turkey held the Presidency of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization, in the first half of 2017. The Republic of Moldova considers Turkey’s mandate within the BSEC was a successful one,” said President Dodon.

He noted that the Republic of Moldova pays special attention to the participation in the BSEC, especially in such fields as trade, transport, energy, education, culture, science, fighting of terrorism and trafficking in human beings.

“The commercial area of the BSEC member states is of major importance for the development of the foreign trade of the Republic of Moldova. Exports from Moldova to these countries in 2016 represented about 48% of the total exports, while imports made up approximately 46%,” said President Dodon.

He also said that the idea of thinking up new practical mechanisms for eliminating the nontariff barriers to trade and simplifying the border crossing procedures in the region should be supported and the business communities of the BSEC member states should be involved in this activity. The Republic of Moldova is interested in continuing the cooperation in the transport sector and in initiating such projects as BSEC Permit System, Black Sea Ring Highway and Motorways of the Sea.

The Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization this year celebrates the 25th anniversary of the foundation.
