“The government will fall into its own trap. The investiture of the minister of defense is beyond the limit of political legitimacy and shows how impotence makes the rulers to commit serious mistakes,” said President Igor Dodon. The reaction comes after Eugen Sturza on October 24 was sworn in as minister of defense after a relevant decree was signed by Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu, who holds office of President on an interim basis, IPN reports.

“By not allowing those from the Democratic government to force the President’s hand, I made them use again their last trump card – the Constitutional Court. But the precedents that the Democrats dared to set will become the instrument owing to which they will suffer. They will be hit by the boomerang that they launched. I’m sure that these methods are not approved of both at home and abroad and they surely cannot be named democratic,” Igor Dodon wrote in a posting on Facebook.

President Dodon assures the people and the foreign partners that neither the Government, nor the parliamentary alliance of the Democrats will be able to exert political pressure on the Head of State from now on as well. He noted he obtained a mandate from the people and will obey only the people and his dismissal from the presidency can be decided only by the people and by no one else.

“The Democratic government cannot dismiss me no matter how much they want this. Now all the citizens could convince themselves of the necessity of switching over to a presidential regime where the President elected directly by the people would have additional powers stipulated in the Constitution, as the political logic requires. Early elections, a Socialist parliamentary majority and the presidential state remain solutions for saving Moldova,” wrote Igor Dodon.

He noted that a broad information campaign will be conducted to collect signatures in favor of the presidential republic. Igor Dodon expressed his conviction that most of the seats of MP after the next parliamentary elections will be held by the Socialists.
